We feel the before and after shots of this countryside cottage, situated deep in the woods, show the benefits of hiring a professional interior designer. This spacious kitchen, diner and sitting room area needed more than just a new kitchen, with the original design looking like it had been built by The Gruffalo and his Granny!
The transformation from aged to modern interior design...
We kept the staircase window and fitted a new light coloured door to match the new balustrade. The balustrade was changed from aged wooden planks to something more elegant and timeless, along with creating an under the stair cupboard to create additional storage space. Our choice of a simple pale eggshell tone for the joinery, paired with an oiled oak handrail and detail, encourages the natural light and really makes the space glow - more importantly, it helps set an identity for the rest of the property.
We fitted the kitchen with a dining island, smart storage units and modern appliances; including a fridge with all the mod-cons and under cabinet lighting - refreshing the kitchen cottage into a practical and modern space.
We also transformed the pile of stones that formed the original fireplace, by fronting it with an ‘effect’ fire - fantastically transforming it into a beautiful red panelled fire breast with a stylish surround.
This started out as an odd vernacular cottage that needed a strong, robust personality to jump out with a warm embrace upon arrival, creating a sense of smiles, familiarity and friendship. We think this was achieved by removing the dark varnished piles of stones and knotty pine boarding and replacing with a light, bespoke interior at a reasonable cost.
After much hard work, what a difference!
This property was transformed into a Summer and weekend cottage to fall in love with - a place to escape and relax, full of beauty and character. Perhaps The Gruffalo was gone, but maybe Red Riding Hood may still visit?
