Our aim was to craft a home embracing the owners tastes, needs and aspirations. Bringing joy at all seasons of the year, from dawn until bedtime. No specific style of design would be right, neither too much ‘in trend’ input would satisfy. Therefore we worked on creating a unique blend to weave a textured blend of informal, off key relaxed grandness to utilise the high ceilings and good sized spaces. So visually you felt comfortable with two of you at home, and yet to feel great when full of friends and family. The result to be utterly dateless and the client’s new home unique.
Thus the Master bedroom and en-suite was a good area to begin and of special importance as the place of the start and end of every day.
The main story
The space was good but the clients didn’t want anything too showy or loud, so a design which satisfied every desired input of luxury, style and balance as required for a neat and efficient bedroom. With subtle lighting at ones fingertips throughout the room. The cool but interesting painted joinery and panelling with smart profiles and neat curves intrigues the eye.
The surround to the bed gives a unique identity uplifted by the smart upholstered panelled fabric headboard and pair of illuminated bedside tables with very special lights above. However, the importance of the view from the bed is paramount. So the big impact of the full height panelling with drop arched openings, subtly sporting the fibrous plaster chrysanthemum roundels, as matching the over bed detail, lead into the luxurious walk-in closet. This was designed to enrich and contrast the bedrooms soft structural appeal.
Back into the bedroom the panelled modesty pillar stands to conceal the bed from the door, constructed and finished to match the panelling of the closet front. A European wall covering gently provides a further softening to the bathroom entrance wall, over the rich, colourful and fascinating Tim Page silk carpet from a UK company, but widely available in the US, which is laid to the whole floor.
The layout of this smart closet was created to allow the fullest array of storage options with long and short hanging and long term storage, all doored and lit. As well as drawer space, including small individual personalised drawers. The locally produced cabinetwork designed by Burchell & Burchell in here uses poplar and maple timber veneer and solids to the main panels, giving a light finish with a generosity of space. With the trims and detailed elements in burl oak. Just as you would expect on the dashboard of a fine Bentley motor car. All the timbers employed were locally sourced and from sustainable forests as you would imagine. Mirrors at each end wall with full and specific lighting, including daylight, complete this very practical yet beautifully finished element.
